英国诺丁汉大学中国政策研究中心研究人员预测，由于金融危机使美日欧等发达国家的经济进入了负增长，中国经济最迟将在 2010 年超过日本，也很有可能在 2009 年就实现这个目标，成为世界第二大经济体。

中国有望在今年，或最迟 2010 年超过日本，成为全球第二大经济体。有研究人员两年前就曾表示，中国经济将于 2018 年之前在世界经济排名上超过日本。

在上面的报道中，economic pecking order 指的是世界经济的强弱排序，pecking order 在这里的意思是“任何团体中之长幼尊卑次序”，也称为“啄序”。例如：There is a distinct pecking order in Cabinet.（内阁成员分三六九等。）

Pecking order 在经济领域特指“优序融资”，也称为“啄食顺序”或“融资顺序”。美国经济学家迈尔斯（Myers）于 1984 年提出了关于企业融资顺序的啄序理论（pecking order theory），意思是当公司要为自己的新项目进行融资时，将优先考虑使用内部的盈余，其次是采用债券融资，最后才考虑股权融资。
